THE TARRAGORN QUEEN

THE TARRAGORN QUEEN

The birth of a Tarragorn is a cyclical event. Every 10 thousand years, the egg of such a titanic creature is expelled somewhere on the planet of If, only if there is no Tarragorn still alive, even if in a state of hibernation. Scholars theorize that such a creature is generated by the incalculable magical energetic potential of the heart of the world and part of this energy overflows as a planetary creation drive. Others still support the thesis that the Tarragorn is a tool of destruction generated by nature to allow the birth of new beings to replace those that were decimated. Be that as it may, an anomalous event occurred a few years ago: the egg emerged on the edge of the Moving Sea.
Fearing the destruction that the creature could cause, all types of powerful adventurers and armies headed to the location, awaiting the moment of confrontation. To everyone’s surprise, the being that burst out of the shell consisted of a harmless chelon – although of colossal proportions – which was named by humans as “Keloi, the peaceful one”. The gentle titan simply turned his back on everyone, disregarding their insignificant presence and threw himself into the moving sea, the surface of which he still navigates today, filtering the nutrients suspended in the sandy waves as a whale would. Over time, people lost their fear of its colossal presence and began to establish permanent homes in its shell, thus creating the wandering city of Kelonia.

What no one knew was that the anomalous event consisted not only of the birth of a peaceful tarragorn, but also of a second egg that was expelled not on the surface, but in the underground bowels near the Kreptar volcano. The creature born from this second egg was infused with all the violence that its non-identical twin lacked. And this tarragorn was not only hostile, but also intelligent and powerful. And she felt the resentment of the thousands of Zards who had been hibernating for a very long time, waiting to take back what was rightfully theirs. For they reigned where humans reign now, and they will reign again when Kreptar returns to the height of his elemental glory. Queen Tarragorn grows in the depths, as do her diabolical confabulations to advance the day of her Zard subjects’ return as absolute lords of the surface.

The influence of Queen Tarragorn

Queen Tarragorn’s sovereignty over all reptiles and amphibians is so absolute that she is capable of touching the mind of any creature of these types that has up to 20 hit dice, no matter the distance, as long as the target is also in the world of If .
If the creature wishes to go against an order given by the queen, it must succeed in a DC 30 Will test. On a success, it´s free from mental influence for 24 hours (and gains a cumulative bonus of +1 if the queen tries again later – maximum +10). On a failure, the creature will be under the queen’s command for 24 hours. On a critical failure, the creature will be under the queen’s command for 72 hours(and will receive a cumulative -1 penalty if the queen tries again later – maximum -10).

Hooks for player characters

A very few Zards conceived after the birth of Queen Tarragorn are immune to her mental influence. The reason for this is unknown. Once it is discovered that an individual is not “touched by the blessing of the great mother,” he is immediately considered an outcast and an abomination in Zard society. He will be brutally executed by the others unless he manages to escape. He will be hunted for the rest of his days, until he is eliminated.
You must inform the narrator and in your character sheet when creating your character Zard whether or not he is immune to the influence of Queen Tarragorn. Choose wisely: by opting for immunity, the queen will not be able to touch your mind, but your character will be hunted until the end of his life by his peers. By opting for non-immunity, you will be accepted by Zard society, but the queen will be able to fall on your willpower every day like waves on rocks, pulverizing them until only fine grains of sand remain.
