MAGIBEAST
Magibeast
A magibrute that achieves a degree of arcanium poisoning severe enough to kill it has a 5% chance of becoming a magibeast instead of dying. When this occurs, the narrator must roll a D100. If the result is 1 to 5, the character suffers 1 point of permanent damage to all of his mental ability scores (Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma) per day, until these scores reach 3. He then no longer has control of his actions and will become an irrational and highly hostile monster that exists solely for his own subsistence. The creature will begin to consume three times its daily food intake and after a month its size will increase by at least one category, in addition to gaining new mutations.
There are rumors of a magibeast of enormous size that prowls the Serpent Passage on the continent of Teahon, blocking this important trade route to Balibalur, as well as the underground source of drinking water that exists in its midst. A royal reward is offered to those brave enough to bring the beast’s head to the authorities, proving the end of this hideous threat. There is no known treatment capable of reversing a magibrute’s transformation into a magibeast, although learned clerics and arcanists theorize that it is possible, although extremely difficult.
Upon becoming a magibeast, the creature acquires the following characteristics:
– Strength and Constitution attributes increase by 4 points;
– Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma are reduced to 3;
– Creature size category increases by one step (a medium Magibrute becomes large, for example).
– Secondary mutations (see below)
SECONDARY MUTATIONS
In addition to the creature’s physical vigor increasing substantially, a Magibeast is infused with so much Arcanium radiation that its physiology undergoes new mutations. Add a mutation from Magibrute’s default list to those already existing and choose up to two traits from the “Abominable Mutations” list below.
ABOMINABLE MUTATIONS
1- Breath: The magibeast is capable of expelling a 4.5m cone of energy from its mouth every 3 rounds that causes an amount of d6 damage equivalent to ¼ of the character’s previous level before the transformation (Reflex DC 20 reduces damage by half). Choose one of the following energy descriptors: fire, cold, acid, sonic. There are magibeasts capable of breathing raw energy (like the magic “magic missiles”), but this is a very rare occurrence.
2- Reflect magic: the magibeast is capable of absorbing and redirecting an attack spell that causes elemental damage that targets it. The monster must succeed on a save against the spell caster’s spell DC, which must be at most 4th level.
3- Innate magic: the magibeast acquires the ability to cast a single arcane spell of up to 3rd level, once per round, with no daily limits.
4- Gigantism: in addition to the size progression that the creature received when becoming a magibeast, increase its size category again. A magibeast with this characteristic would therefore become enormous in size. This trait can be acquired twice to progress it to gargantuan size.
5- Aura: The magibeast acquires a permanent elemental aura, which it is capable of suppressing at will. Choose one of the following energy descriptors: fire, cold, acid, sonic. The creature now adds 2d6 damage from the chosen energy type, in addition to becoming immune to it.
6- Regeneration: The magibeast gains the regeneration quality, restoring 5 health points per round, in addition to being able to restore severed limbs by joining them to the target limb and holding for 2 rounds.
7- Arcane siphon: the magibeast distorts the fabric of magic in the space around it, causing a -4 penalty to the DC of any spellcasters’ tests within a 9 meter radius.
8- Abominable physiology: a magibeast with this characteristic gains a natural weapon that can be a distorted pincer in place of one of the hands, or bone blades on the back of the fists, which deal 2d6 damage+strength modifier if the monster is large in size, or 3d6 if it´s huge. When it hits a creature, it causes light arcanium poisoning (Fortitude DC 15 negates the effect).
