ARCANIUM
ARCANIUM
The creation of the world of If was so erratic that part of the very fabric of magic crystallized in the form of an ore, known by the name of “Arcanium”. Its surface is white, but it constantly shines, emitting light of different colors. Their magical energies are highly unstable, which requires a special mining technique using spellcasters to extract one nugget at a time. Magibrutes are normally used to transport ore loads, since they are resistant to its radiation.
Spellcasters who perform Arcanium extraction wear lead-threaded robes to resist the effects of poisoning.
Extracting arcanium:
To extract an arcanium nugget, the character must meet the minimum requirements according to their power and size. On failure, he will take random descriptor energy damage.
Small nugget – Minimum caster level 5. Caster check DC 20 (Failure: 1 point of damage). The procedure lasts 1 minute. A small nugget can be used to create an arcane pistol, but it does not have enough power to be used in an arcane musket. It has 20 charges.
Medium nugget – Minimum caster level 10. Caster check DC 25 (Failure: 1d6 points of damage). The procedure lasts 5 minutes. A medium nugget can be used to create an arcane musket. It has 30 charges.
Large nugget – Minimum caster level 15. Caster check DC 30 (Failure: 3d6 points of damage). The procedure lasts 30 minutes. A large nugget can even be used to create an arcane cannon. It has 60 charges.
Arcanium poisoning
Arcanium ore in its raw state is highly radioactive, contaminating nearby living beings with wild magical effects. The degree of poisoning depends on the size of the nugget the character was exposed to, as well as the duration of exposure. The crystals applied to arcane muskets and pistols are magically treated to isolate their radioactivity. The effects of poisoning are permanent, unless a spell specific to the degree of poisoning (described below) is cast to dispel the radiation from the victim’s body.
Mild Poisoning: The character was exposed to a small nugget for 1 hour. Succeed on a DC 15 Fortitude save or take 1 point of energy damage per minute (random descriptor between fire, cold, acid, or sonic) and 1 point of damage to your Constitution score. Being targeted by the “Dispel Magic” spell removes poisoning. At each exposure or period of 1 hour, the character must retake the test. Its difficulty increases by 2 with each subsequent test (maximum 25).
Moderate Poisoning: The character was exposed to a medium nugget for 30 minutes. Succeed on a DC 20 Fortitude save or take 1d6 points of energy damage per minute (random descriptor between fire, cold, acid, or sonic) and 1 point of damage to your Constitution score. Being the target of the “Dispel Magic” spell reduces the degree of poisoning to light. After each exposure or 30-minute period, the character must retake the test. Its difficulty increases by 2 with each subsequent test (maximum 30).
Severe Poisoning: The character was exposed to a large nugget for 15 minutes. Succeed on a DC 25 Fortitude save or take 2d6 points of energy damage per round (random descriptor between fire, cold, acid, or sonic) and 2 points of damage to your Constitution score. Being the target of the 4th level arcane spell “Spell Immunity” reduces the degree of poisoning to moderate. At each exposure or period of 15 minutes, the character must retake the test. Its difficulty increases by 2 with each subsequent test (maximum 35).
Extreme Poisoning: The character was exposed to an area with large amounts of arcanium for 10 minutes. Succeed on a DC 30 Fortitude save or take 3d6 points of energy damage per round (random descriptor between fire, cold, acid, or sonic) and 2 points of damage to your Constitution score. Being the target of the 8th level arcane spell “Antimagic Field” reduces the degree of poisoning to severe. After each exposure or period of 10 minutes, the character must retake the test. Its difficulty increases by 2 with each subsequent test (maximum 40).
