RELIGIONS IN THE WORLD OF IF

RELIGIONS IN THE WORLD OF IF

With the advent of regenesis that merged the universe in the process of death with the new universe that was born from the Primordial Capsule, the gods themselves shattered into Divine Aspects. An ancient god who held a certain domain shattered into several aspects of it, each tied to some specific alignment.
The ancient god of the domain of death was fragmented into the aspects of “Harvest Jack” (Domains of Death and Good) and the aspect of “The Reaper” (Domains of Death and Evil).
A cleric of a given domain connects to its own pure concept rather than a specific deity. Those who worship the Aspect of the Reaper are directly connected to the divine domains of death and evil, with the Aspect being merely a symbolic conduit of the faith of all its believers, as well as a collective manifestation of that belief.
There are no gods in the world of If. Even though the Aspects are independent of each other, it is impossible for a cleric to worship two or more aspects of antagonistic ideals simultaneously, such as chaos and order, good and evil. The domains worshiped must always be complementary or at least neutral to each other.

Interpretation of Aspects

A widely debated topic among If theologians is the fact that two Divine Aspect cults from the same domain present such different interpretations of their ideal. Both a cleric from The Reaper and one from Harvest Jack worship death, but one of them understands it as an annihilating force that imposes its will on all forms of life, while another believes that death is the final rest deserved by all beings of good will, which is part of the cycle of renewal of everything that lives, just like a farmer’s plantations, which are sown, grow, bear fruit and die, giving way to the next harvest.

Becoming a God in If

Some other RPG settings feature epic characters who performed arcane rituals or other feats of incalculable poignancy to become gods. This is not possible in the Glitch Mundi setting, since there are no gods in this universe. To ascend to divinity it is necessary first of all to become an unprecedented idea that does not have a pre-existing Aspect and to transcend material existence, however or if this is possible.

The Death of the Faithful in If

A cleric or fervent believer of a given Aspect will rest on his respective plane – if his mission in material existence has already been completed. If there are still pending tasks, the faithful can be resurrected through magic. This may also occur if there is something to be accomplished that is aligned with the values of that particular Aspect.
A believer who has lived in disagreement with the values of the Aspect he worships or who commits acts of atrocity will have his spirit progressively corrupted and may be thrown to the lower planes such as the Daemonorium to suffer for eternity.

Visions of Aspects

The same Aspect is not always viewed in the same way by two different clerics. Sometimes the same Aspect can manifest itself with different appearances in different people’s visions. It is speculated that a mortal is unable to glimpse the real essence of an Aspect and their limited mind produces an interpretation of the divine phenomenon witnessed in order to process such an extraordinary event, although there are some forms that appear more consistently in the visions of the faithful. Harvest Jack, for example, often ranges from a middle-aged human farm worker to a pumpkin-headed scarecrow. But he is always kind and easygoing to those who are graced with a glimpse of him.
