THE WANDERING MOON
THE WANDERING MOON
In addition to the natural satellite visible daily in the skies of the world of If, a second moon manifests itself erratically, with a totally unpredictable orbit: the Wandering Moon. It consists of a geoid-shaped object formed by the ruins of a world that existed before the present universe, truncated in such a way that they form a sinister cosmic bolide, although such knowledge is inaccessible to the overwhelming majority of inhabitants of the planet of If. Its own physiology is anomalous, presenting two hemispheres separated from each other and a luminous core of unknown nature.
Such characteristics make the sight of the Wandering Moon a phenomenon that generates admiration, amazement and fear. Many people demonstrate superstitions regarding the appearance of this mysterious celestial entity, attributing all kinds of bad omens to it – which are quite justifiable. The manifestation of the remnants becomes particularly powerful while the Wandering Moon is visible in the sky. Those who were unable to interact with physical matter suddenly become capable. Others who already possessed this ability become even more powerful. There are still some who go into a kind of psychic frenzy that turns them into threats to anyone who has the misfortune to cross their path.
LEGENDS
Prince of Shipwrecks
Somewhere on the inhospitable surface of the Wandering Moon’s vast wreckage lies a majestic and fearsome entity called the “Prince of Shipwrecks”, with for its throne the ruined carcass of an ancient warship rising from the lunar surface. Legend has it that she´s not a remnant derived from the psychic impression of a single living being – but of several of them, sadness and losses condensed into a fractured consciousness that exists beyond time-space, reflecting what was, what is and also what which perhaps will be continually, for all eternity.
Her mere presence can terrify the hearts of the bravest and her gaze can plunge warlords into a torpor of inescapable despair. Prince of Shipwrecks radiates pain, hopelessness, and the inexorability of entropy.
Dark Core
Much is speculated about the luminous core of the Wandering Moon and a series of myths have been constructed by different peoples about it. The Floti call it the “purple chestnut” and consider its vision in the sky a good omen, for which they make a wish that they believe will be granted by the celestial body.
The Tarkals conjecture that the Dark Core could be a dimensional anomaly, a kind of portal that could lead to some unknown destination.
The Phaemon believe that the Floti’s superstition is based on a heretical scroll of an infernal scholar from the Daemonorium: the dark core would be an energetic sphere of pure intention and whoever was able to touch it could channel its power to transform any desire of theirs in reality.
